Position Summary
The Advising, Counseling, & Support Services Department is recruiting for a full time Support Services Coordinator. This position is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with community-based social services in the support of VC students. Responsible for meeting with students who need social services to remain on track towards their academic and professional goals and make appropriate referrals. Shared responsibility in the establishment and enhancement of support services to students who are experiencing insecurities that are negatively affecting their academic success. This position is supported by a US Department of Education Title V grant ending 3/31/2026, with annual continuation funding after 9/30/2022 contingent on funding availability.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct initial interviews with students seeking Basic Needs assistance to assess, interpret, and make appropriate referrals to on-campus and community support services based on students' situation;
  • Provide crisis intervention to students in need and make strong referrals to other agencies and services when necessary;
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local social service agencies and organizations to facilitate effective student support referrals;
  • Seeks out opportunities for social services agencies to host on-campus events;
  • Manage on-campus student pantry, mini-pantries, and other related tasks, such as seeking out campus and community support, leading student workers, and other efforts to sustain campus needs;
  • Track local, state, and national trends and policies related to basic needs;
  • Conduct research on resources and grant opportunities;
  • Manage budgets, awarding, and reports for Basic Needs grants;
  • Maintain partnership with Food Bank and adhere to monthly reporting, annual trainings, and conferences;
  • Participate in CARE Team and Campus Safety committees in an effort to provide on-campus and community resource referrals;
  • Provide guidance and information to bridge gaps in student success as Foster Care Liaison and Student Parent Liaison
  • Maintains and ensures confidentiality of student documents and records.
  • Research, develop, and conduct social service workshops for students at the individual and group level;
  • Research, develop, and coordinate professional development opportunities for Victoria College's faculty and staff in regards to student needs and trends;
  • Assist the Institutional Effectiveness, Research, & Assessment department with data collection and maintenance of accurate database information;
  • Participate in professional development opportunities through multiple means, such as on-campus trainings, webinars, and local/state/national professional organizations;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Advising, Counseling, & Support Services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or psychology required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Licensed Bachelors Social Worker (LBSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience working in a related field required, three years preferred.
  • Two years of strong customer service experience required.
  • Must support and have a clear understanding of the mission of the community college.
  • Experience working with in an educational environment and working with a diverse population is preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Experience with software, including MSOffice, Internet, Banner, and email.
  • Ability to accomplish business tasks, meet deadlines, and learn and interpret policies and procedures.
  • Sensitivity to diverse populations and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Experience working with state and/or federal grants preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Note: Applicants who travel over 200 miles round trip will be reimbursed up to $500 for travel expenses according to the travel reimbursement procedure.
