Job Summary:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is a highly environmental-focused position overseeing the organization's EH&S policies, procedures, training, and guidance. They will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety laws and regulations, and implement policies that prioritize environmental protection. Additionally, the manager will strive to establish a safe and healthy work environment that aligns with environmental sustainability goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leading EH&S strategies and policies throughout the organization.
  • Raising awareness of current EH&S issues throughout the organization.
  • Evaluating existing EH&S strategies and collaborating with the leadership team to make necessary adjustments.
  • Overseeing waste management and recycling policies.
  • Analyzing EH&S monitoring data and preparing compliance reports.
  • Staying updated with news on EH&S issues and researching if necessary.
  • Ensuring all employees are current on required health screenings and training.
  • Coordinating or attending public hearings, conferences, and events on EH&S matters.
  • Ensuring compliance with EPA, RCRA, TECQ, OSHA, and other environmental and safety regulations by developing new policies and programs.
  • Filing required by EPA, RCRA, DOT, TECQ, and OSHA reports such as STEERS, E-Manifests, HazMat Manifests, OSHA 300 Log, etc.
  • Collaborating with management and supervisors to develop and lead safety programs, training, and employee orientation.
  • Establishing measurable objectives to evaluate the effectiveness of related programs.
  • Analyzing work environments to identify EH&S risks and implementing appropriate control measures.
  • Managing Workers' Compensation programs, including accident investigations and resolving related issues.
  • Developing and implementing policies, procedures, and routine inspection schedules.
  • Scheduling and conducting training sessions on emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
  • Ensuring the availability of material safety data sheets when needed.
  • Maintaining comprehensive employee safety files and managing inter-company Cloud files effectively.
  • Acting as the company's Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and representing the company in compliance-related interactions.
  • Maintaining accurate inventory control of PPE and other required safety equipment.
  • Staying updated on developments in EH&S fields and changes in federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrating self-motivation and initiative when working independently to achieve short-term and long-term goals.
  • Communicating effectively with managers, peers, and contractors to ensure high performance.
  • Coordinating and managing multiple tasks while transferring knowledge to others.
  • Displaying a proactive and enthusiastic attitude when interacting with colleagues and customers, fostering a positive atmosphere.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in respective areas of responsibility.
  • Adhering to all safety rules, regulations, and procedures set by federal and state agencies and Zinc Resources LLC policies.
  • Performing additional duties as required.
Minimum Education/Experience Qualifications:
  • A minimum of an Associate or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or a relevant field is necessary. Alternatively, candidates must possess at least five years of experience in EH&S, including at least two years in a managerial capacity.
  • This position will require certifications in Method 9, First Aid/CPR/AED Trainer, OSHA 501, HazMat Transportation training (ENV501), and Hazwoper 24 and/or 40 within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check is required, which includes verifying a valid driver's license, clean driving record, physical examination, and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Knowledge of SWPPP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans).
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Thorough understanding of the management of chemical and hazardous materials.
  • Preferred proficiency in various software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with the use of Apple products like MacBook.
  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional managerial and interpersonal abilities.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and be an effective member of a work team.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods, regardless of weather conditions.
  • Availability to be on-call 24/7.
  • Physical fitness to perform tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and climbing heights of up to 100 feet.
Physical requirements:
  • Able to consistently wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, respirator (without restrictions), hard hat, safety goggles, steel-toe shoes or boots, and any other mandated gear.
  • Ability to work in areas with elevated levels of noise.
  • Required to work in diverse environments involving extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, wetness, humidity, dryness, and/or dustiness.
  • Exposure to various raw materials, including cement, clay, limestone, chemicals, solvents, and lubricants.
