PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in the installation and maintenance of pipe of various sizes and types, valves, water and wastewater services, fire hydrants, flush valves, booster stations, lift stations, manholes and facilities.Operates and uses hand and pneumatic tools as needed, including jackhammers, gasoline tampers, hack saws, tapping machine, boring machine, hydraulic jacking machine, cement mixers and compressors and sewer jetting machine,Drives front-end loader, dump trucks, backhoe, combination vacuum and jetting machine, track vehicles and cherry picker. Reads and completes daily work logs and service forms.Performs duties in a safe and orderly manner, complying with all City and department safety rules.Regular attendance at work and arrives on time.Performs all other job-related duties as assigned or as become apparent.Ability to get along with other employees and the public. PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Employee will work in extreme temperatures; position will require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing and lifting to maintain or repair the City's water or wastewater systems. Employee will work with chemicals, mechanical, electrical and traffic hazards. Employee will work in confined spaces, trenches and in streets where extreme hazards exist. Employee is frequently required to perform heavy lifting and carrying of materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Employee will be exposed to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water and mud. Employee must be able to walk on slippery, loose, uneven and sloped surfaces. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: High school diploma or GED equivalent.Valid Texas Driver's LicensePrevious public works maintenance or construction experience preferred; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Must possess a Class D Water License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one (1) year of employment. Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and TCEQ standards related to water and wastewater systems. Familiarity with work safety policies, procedures, and PPE use. Reading and accurately interpreting technical manuals and instructions.Records maintenance and retention practices and procedures. Proficiency in construction, maintenance, and repair of water/wastewater infrastructure. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, agencies, and the public. Skilled in operating tools, equipment, and materials. Effective organization, prioritization, and deadline management. Ability to follow instructions and maintain professional relationships.
